DescriptionA collection of grain-painter's tools collected over a period of time, and kept in a compartmentalized wooden box. Box: Rectangular hinged lid box divided in interior with a "T" shaped divider into a square section at proper right end, and two long rectangular sections no proper left end.
Tools: The collection consists of 11 brass stencils, 31 metal combs of various sized; 11 pieces of wood with scalloped edges of various sizes; 2 miscellaneous small pieces of wood or slate; 1 metal-banded piece of flat wood (possibly part of a brush); 9 brushes of assorted sizes; 5 molded wooden patterns in various shapes; 2 metal rollers of patterned metal discs; and one lone wooden handle.
MarkingsBrass stencils are marked "J. J. Callow Pat. July 5, 1870 Cleveland, Ohio". One brush bears the date May 1, 1900. Other markings which could be a patent number appear on other devices.
