Label TextMary Starkey's sampler belongs to an early group of Newbury samplers characterized by large blue urns, sawtooth bands, bold stylized floral bands, and animals and fruit trees in the bottom section. This sampler, known as the "Chase Sampler" because of the running deer at the bottom, was offered by Colonial Williamsburg as an adapted needlework kit from 1967 to 1997.
