Label TextThe gardens at Carlton House were designed by William Kent for Frederick, Prince of Wales – the son of George II and his heir apparent until his death at age 44. Frederick’s wife, the Dowager Princess Augusta, had a great interest in gardens and is responsible for enlarging the grounds of what is today known as the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew.
