DescriptionOrrery case custom fitted for the storage of an orrery and its component parts.Label TextThis fitted and custom made case is almost certainly the original housing for the accompanying orrery. It bears the label of Henry Gattey, an immigrant English instrument maker living in New York, but was clearly produced in England, as was the orrery. Gattey likely retailed the instrument and its case in America.
InscribedPaper label adhered to interior of door bears images of scientific equipment, the Masonic crossed square and compass, and a man along with the words: "H. Gattey, Artist, Mathematical, Optical & Philosophical Intrument Maker (from London)..No. 207 Water Street, Near Beekm Slip, N. York."
