DescriptionMolded, soft-paste porcelain figure of a squirrel resting on its haunches on a small irregular base. Using both paws, it holds a nut to its mouth. It has long ears that point upward and a feathery tail that curls upward, touching the curve of the squirrels back. No color has been applied.


Label TextSquirrels, probably derived from a Meissen original, appear in triangle Chelsea in two slightly different models. This one is also found in polychrome, which is very unusual for a triangle-period figure. Similar squirrels eating a nut appear in later Derby porcelain and are common in Staffordshire Whieldon-type earthenware.
