DescriptionRectangular red leather pocketbook with silver clasp and fittings, lined with green silk and enclosing two cream-color wool leaves for needles, a mirror (cracked), slots for sewing and writing implements, and a book with gilt edges. The book is an almanac for the year 1795. The title page reads: "The Polite Repository, or Pocket Companion: Containing An Almanack, The Births Marriages &c: of the Sovereign Princes of Europe. Lists of both Houses of Parliament, Officers of State, Navy, and Army, The Baronets of England, And various other articles of Useful Information. Ornamented with Elegant Engravings, and ruled Pages for Occurances, Cash Account, &c. &c. To be continued Annually. London. Printed for W. Peacock Salisbury Square, Fleet Street." The calendar pages for the month of May include pencil notations for several visits and parties, including the phrase "Lady Gothley called".Label TextBound in one small volume is a calendar with pages for noting appointments, pages for cash accounts, and useful information for a well-born London woman, including lists of the members of Parliament, the Baronets of England, Princes of Europe, historical Kings and Queens of England, London bankers, school terms, and weights and measures. The owner of this almanac noted that she had two visitors on May 2 and 5 and attended parties on May 13 and 14 (Wednesday and Thursday) and again the following week on May 18 and 19 (Monday and Tuesday).
