DescriptionThe lower margin reads: "M.rs Sarah Porter/ Queen of the Touters at Tunbridge Wells./ Vander Smissen Pinxit."Label TextSarah Porter is shown in an oval within the print, angled toward the left. She wears a full cap, kerchief, flowered gown, and holds a large book open on her lap, which is headed "Ladies Subscriptions," followed by names, amongst them is that of Pether. In her other hand, she holds an ink-bottle and pens. It is thought that Pether actually did the painting also, and put in the ficticious Dutch name, Vander Smissen, as a joke.
