DescriptionShallow plate with no foot ring. Bluish tin glaze decorated in blue with Chinese-derived motifs: double bracket fencing, leafy branches, and an insect.
Label TextPlates and bowls with this decoration adapted from Chinese originals often incorporate a squirrel as part of the design. Fragments of an entire plate with extremely similar decoration were excavated in Williamsburg at the James Geddy Workshop and Kitchen (19BB.1l70), and fragments with a similar design have been excavated at the William Finnie House (2BA.0824), at a site southwest of the Chiswell-Bucktrout House (2GA.OO43), and at Wetherburn's Tavern (9NA). The Bristol attribution is based on the profile and the decoration.
