DescriptionCase and Bottles. Oak box with hinged lid; iron straps nailed around vertical corners of sides of box and lid, 6 small iron straps nailed to top and sides, top and front, and top and back of lid, and the same from the base to the front, sides, and back; iron carrying handle on each end of case; large iron escutcheon and lock inset into front of box and lid; interior divided into three equal sections, the two outer sections divided to hold three rectangluar shaped bottles, center section holds a removable wooden dovetailed and divided case for glasses; interior lined with paper.ProvenanceFrom Warwick Plantation, on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Warwick is a story and a half brick building, one of the oldest on the Shore, located on Upshur's Bay. It was build ca. 1666-1670 by John and Mary Upshur, who are buried in one of the Warwick graveyards.
