DescriptionLower margin reads: "The FEATHERED FAIR in a FRIGHT./ From the Original Picture by John Collet, in the posession of Carington Bowles./ 357/ Printed for & Sold by Carington Bowles, at his Map & Print Warehouse, N.o 69 in S.t Pauls Church Yard, London, Published as the Act directs, 8 May 1777."Label TextThis print shows two young women running from attacking ostriches. The artist was poking fun at the extreme headdresses fashionable in the 1770s. The women accentuated the excessive height of their hair with ostrich plumes causing plucked ostriches to chase them. The dog was of no use in fending off the angry birds.
