DescriptionBrass and steel fire fender of rectangular form, with two brass tapered legs with square feet and urn-shaped finials flanking a long brass band of pierced and engraved diamonds enclosing oval pattera attached by curved steel arms to steel coal box with slatted bottom, solid back and sides, and three serpentine brass bars across front. The sets of smaller brass urn finials ornament coal box.
Label TextMatching coal grates and fire fenders are rare survivals; this pair is a fine example of the early neoclassical style in English brass.
