DescriptionCandlestick with detachable nozzle.Label TextThese stamped and weighted candlesticks are of debased columnar type with the narrow alternate plain and figured panels of their sockets, stems, and bases serving decorative rather than architectural ends. Paterae have been substituted for the proper corner scrolls of their capitals. Smith's maker's mark and secondary device are in keeping with the act of 1784 which reinstituted the use of marks on plated wares and stipulated that they include the full surname of the maker or firm and devices not in imitation of hallmarks on sterling silver and that these marks be registered with the Sheffield Assay Office, which Smith did in that year.
