DescriptionThe toy consists of a base with four painted wheels. On the base are various circles with windmills and soldiers attached. These circles are wired to the axles so that they turn when the toy is pulled. There is an upper circle of soldiers surrounded by a metal railing that has been cut out with a design. There is a center pole that runs from the base to above the top layer of soldiers. A shaped wooden handle is attached to the front so that the toy can be pulled. On the back end is a pole with a monkey perched atop. The name "Edith" is painted on the base at the front and at the back is painted "Patented 1858."Label TextChildren are attracted to things that move. This toy offers a flurry of motion when pulled by the handle. The cages rotate, the soldiers turn around, and the pinwheels spin. On the back end, a cloth and wood monkey bobs merrily atop its wire as the toy moves. With so many soldiers, one would expect this to have been made for a young boy, but curiously the toy carries the name of "Edith." No explanation for this has been found.
