DescriptionRectangular wooden box, nailed construction, top hinged with two metal hinges. The box is painted blue-grey with floral design in white, gold, green, red and blue. Center of top and front is painted with a diamond shaped motif. Top has flowers painted around the diamond motif and in corners as well as a dark band outlinding top. Front and sides outlined with gold bands around edges and creating quarter "fans" in corners.InscribedWritten in pencil inside cover: "Painted by Sarah Josepha Hale at Miss Seton's School Cornish, N.H.".
