DescriptionSide chair with serpentine crest rail with embryonic scrolled ears; plain stiles with flat face and rounded back; vase shaped splat with various elongated piercings; integral shoe and rear seat rail; seat rail not shaped across bottom; straight side and front seat rails with molded upper edge; plain Marlborough legs; mortise and tenoned H-stretchers and additional rear stretcher; original black leather upholstery secured to slip seat frame with wrought nails using corner tab method.

ProvenanceAccording to source, this chair was among the personal property abandoned by Lord Dunmore when he fled the Palace in 1775. It was purchased by the Galt family of Williamsburg at public auction in 1776. The Dunmore connection was reported in the Art Loan Exhibition held in Norfolk in 1879.
