DescriptionWoodblock print curtain fragment. Textile is of linen warp-cotton weft, woven in tabby or plain weave, block printed in madder colors of red, pink, purple, and black with pencilled yellow, blue, and green (the latter yellow over blue). The design consists of undulating purple stems from which emanate exotic flowers, seed pods, berries, and leaves; paired birds perched on projecting stems. Background printed in light red in a network of spiky vines ("seaweed ground.") A remnant of blue silk binding tape is stitched along one edge. Once part of bed furniture.1770-1790
