DescriptionBasin stand: Square top of washstand has circular hole to hold a wash basin, with two smaller holes in corners, proper left retaining the original turned mahogany soap dish; scalloped skirt; top supported with four turned posts above a shelf with a small drawer with original brass pull; base has four square legs with a solid shaped stretcher, the center dished to take a jug.

Woods: Mahogany throughout except for drawer sides (oak) and drawer supports (deal - replaced).
InscribedA piece of paper embossed "THE TOWER HOUSE/ CARTMEL./ GRANGE-OVER-SANDS,/ LANCASHIRE." is glued to the bottom of the drawer. Written in ink: "This washstand was originally in the Vestry of the old Church of St. Peter's FieldBroughton consecrated in 1745......18.....(the only remaining piece of china) were given to the Reverend Henry Alfred Raucome, the then Incumbent as a perquisite. In 1951 it was given by his widow to Mr. William MacRult Clark organist of Cartmel Priory Church, he being a great-, great nephew of the Reverend William Wilson Incumbent of St. Peter's FieldBroughton from 1828-1871.
