DescriptionRectangular case with oval ends in two parts, one of which slides out of the other. Outer case has rectangular opening bordered by vertical lines on top to show engraving on inner case and is perforated in a decorative design on bottom. Bottom of outer case has three scallops near end to facilitate pulling inner case out. Inner case is engraved on top and has two round stops at left end to prevent it being pulled entirely out of the case.Exterior engraved "Wm Gilbert / Uttoxeter / 1767" within rococo cartouche with tattered scallop edges. Cartouche is surrounded by military emblems and symbols (flags, cannon, drums, pikes halberds, etc.).
