DescriptionA single piece of wood has been carved to form a shallow ledge supporting, from viewer's left to right, an eagle standing on a stump, a small teepee, and a leafless tree. The upright section of the wood slab is textured all over by repeated triangular-shaped gouge marks.Artist unidentified.
InscribedIncised within a shield-shaped device on the eagle's chest is "T. O. T. E".
ProvenancePurchased by donor Carolyn Weekley 5/19/2001 at the Williamsburg Antique Mall, LLC (500 Lightfoot Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188) from Booth #I- 25. Bill of sale gives the object's stock no. as W354. Weekley noted that much of the material in the booth where she bought this piece was from Indiana, hence that state has been given as a possible point of origin.
