DescriptionThis is a patchwork quilt made of 12 1/2-inch diamond-shaped lozenges of a brown ground floral chintz with stripe, alternating with 8-point, diamond-centered patchwork stars of various small-patterned calicoes. The eight-pointed stars are sometimes called the Ohio Star quilt pattern. The reverse is a lace or pillar stripe English roller-printed cotton in rose, green, mauve, and discharge white on a coffee-brown ground, glazed. The quilt is bound in three-eighths-inch-wide printed cotton. The quilting is in a pattern of rectangles spiraling inward in 8 running stitches per inch.Label TextPrecise eight-pointed stars alternate with glazed cotton diamonds printed with pink and red flowers on a chocolate ground, lending this quilt a rich visual appearance. The reversible quilt is backed with solid cotton printed with a floral stripe design. Eight-sided stars like those in this quilt are sometimes called the Ohio Star Pattern, although it is not known whether the anonymous quiltmaker used that term for her geometric design.
