DescriptionChest with hinged lid above two drawers; lid with tongue and groove joined breadboard ends molded on three sides and hinged to chest with original large iron hinges; chest with exposed wedged dovetails at corners has front panel comprised of two rectangular recessed panels within a rail and stile pegged mortise and tenon frame over two widely spaced drawers with molded edges; panels each are contained within a molded frame of the inner edges of the rails and stiles and have a series of deep concentric circles turned into their centers as well as curved corners carved into their facades over the angled corners of the panels; the medial stile between the two panels has an original large iron keyhole escutcheon that accesses a grab lock on the inside of the chest, over a smaller series of turned concentric circles; each side of the chest has an original large iron carrying handle over an horizontally applied bulbously turned split baluster; base extends beyond facade of chest to form angular base molding over turned ball feet; bottom board is pegged to the chest from the underside; inside of chest has a walnut lidded till across the proper right end.ProvenancePurchased by donor from Joe Kindig c.1953.
