DescriptionSlip seat with original webbing on maple frame and linen cloth. Original "rolled edge" stuffed with straw in front and two sides; from a Connecticut chair.Label TextThis slip seat retains its original foundation upholstery, which features a rolled edge. The upholsterers placed four tightly bound rolls of rush around the edges of the seat frame to form a well that was then filled with curled hair. Although this technique was quite common for sofas, easy chairs, back stools, and other seating furniture upholstered over the rail, this technique was rarely used for slip seats. Even so, the system is well illustrated on this rare survival.
