DescriptionAn arrangement of fruits in a blue, footed compote, the area beneath the container colored blue but not otherwise indicative of a supporting surface. An uncut pineapple rests at an angle near the right side of the composition, while other fruits, including peaches and grapes, with their relevant foliage, fill the remainder of the container. Artist unidentified.

The 2 1/2-inch molded and gilded frame is probably a period replacement.

Label TextSeveral variations of this theorem composition exist on both velvet and paper, all with round-based bowls and pineapples in their upper right corners.
ProvenanceFound in Boston, Mass., by Edith Gregor Halpert, Downtown Gallery, New York, NY; sold to Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, who was CWF's donor.
