DescriptionLife-size carving of a lamb showing fleece in bold detail, painted a greyish white. The piece is comprised of several pieces of wood originally glued together prior to carving to make the whole. It has been subsequently re-secured with iron nails. An iron plate is screwed into a recess on the underside of the figure with a metal hole for supporting a rod to mount the figure.Label TextMany tradesmen alert customers to the nature of their businesses by lettered signboards or symbolic three-dimensional figures or both. This life-sized carving of a lamb probably stood in a window or near the entry of a wool merchant's shop.
