DescriptionFull-length profile portrait of a seated woman. She is wearing a green dress shaded with darker green and black lines. She wears a white fichu and white bonnet which frames hear face, both fichu and bonnet shaded with light blue. A small bunch of brown hair shows from the back of her bonnet at neck with a wisp of hair at forehead. Her facial features are delineated and outlined in black with strong outline to profile of face. She is seated in a yellow bamboo turned side chair with red trim, her hands are clasped before her in her lap. She wears black shoes with white stockings. Inscription below the figure.Label TextAlthough no histories accompany these delightful pro¬files of a couple known only by name, the ruler depicted in George Lott's outstretched hand provides a clue to his profession. The combination of half-length and full-length poses and the imaginative framing of this pair give them a degree of individuality not often shared by comparable inexpensive likenesses created by profes¬sionals in the early nineteenth century.
MarkingsIn ink in script in the lower margin of the primary support is "Elizabeth Lott 1819." No watermark found
