DescriptionHalf-length profile portrait of woman facing right. She wears a dark green dress with fringed sleeves and bodice; a white fringed shawl on her shoulders; a gold and onyx pin at the front of her dress attached to a black string around her neck. She wears a white lace cap on the back of her head, tied at the neck with a bit of floral embroidery (?) on the sash. A twisted side curl in her brown hair is held back at the temple with a small comb. She has blue eyes and her features are very finely outlined. In contrast to the companion, the face plate of the frame is not embossed with a design.Label TextThis pair of profile portraits is housed in what is presumed to be its original composition case with embossed metal matting. The use of an early photographer's standard framing materials testifies to the interchange between photographers and painters, particularly miniature painters, at an interesting point of transition in the process of image-making.
