DescriptionLarge crock with molded handles on each side. Blue underglaze decoration of eagle with banner. Stamped above eagle with maker's name and symbol.Label TextMoralizing stoneware decorators often combined a sort of "kitchen philosophy" with a record of current affairs. The American eagle and pendant banner continued to be popular throughout the nineteenth century. A more common eagle and banner inscription used by the New York Stoneware Company was "Union Forever."
