DescriptionAppearance: Small sideboard table with two deep drawers side by side; straight legs tapered on the inside faces, square in cross section; brass drawer hardware replaced.Construction: The two board top is joined to the sides and back with wooden pegs and to the front rail with modern screws from the underside of the rail. Two front-to-back boards are screwed to the underside of the top above the center of the drawers (these boards appear to be replacements for two wider earlier boards). Rectangular glue blocks (modern) with one chamfered edge reinforce the joining of each of the two boards of the top to the sides.
The single board sides are double tenoned to the legs with double pegs in each tenon. The front rail and drawer blade are tenoned and pegged to the legs; the vertical drawer divider is tenoned and double pegged to the front rail and through tenoned and double pegged to the drawer blade; the single board back is double tenoned and pegged to the legs. The full length legs are tapered below case on the inside faces.
A full width interior rail is nailed to the back of the drawer blade. It is double-notched in the center to lap join a 4½” x ¾” board that is the interior drawer support for both drawers and is in turn double tenoned into the back. The interior rail is also notched at both ends to lap join the two outer drawer supports. The four drawer guides are nailed to the upper surface of the drawer supports.
The walnut drawer fronts are dovetailed to the sides and butt joined to the bottoms. Drawer sides are nailed from the side to the edges of the backs and bottoms. The backs are nailed from the back to the edge of the bottoms. The walnut cockbeading is glued into rabbets around the drawer front. The drawer sides, backs and bottoms are all single board yellow pine.
Woods: The top, sides, legs, front rail, drawer blade and drawer divider are walnut. All secondary woods, including the back, are yellow pine.
