These tea parties were popular occasions for social interaction between men and women, and they offered a rare opportunity for women to preside in a convivial setting. Tea tables served as the primary presentation space for all the equipment needed to prepare tea. Having a miniature tea table of their own taught young girls how to become the perfect hostess by organizing tea parties for their dolls.
