DescriptionDining table. All elements of mahogany except as noted. Drop-leaf table with overhanging rectangualr top, connected to two semi-circular leaves by ruled joint and flap hinges; top held to supporting rails by beech cross brace and white oak glue blocks; leaf edges rounded; straight side rails and end rails with long slight arch all mortised into legs; boards of inside frame shorter than normal for this form, have slight taper; legs have blocked section at top with beaded outer edges; remainder of legs are circular and taper to a pad foot. Two swing legs for supporting leaves.
MarkingsIncised Roman numeral "I" on inside rail under center section (not 18th century). Original pit saw and toothing plane marks on underside of top; maker's pencil marks and nail holes for measuring oval shape. Bench dog marks on edge of framing boards.
