Label TextSamuel Hamlin's mugs are particularly successful examples of a prominent English and American type. His are subtly nuanced in design and especially well-made, setting them apart from most others.

MarkingsTouch mark of label form with "SAMUEL/HAMLIN" in curved reserves with central shells and foliated scrolls below on face of body to left of handle (Laughlin 330). Pseudo hallmarks (1) "SH", (2) seated figure of Britannia or Columbia, (3) dagger, and (4) golden fleece, each within a shaped rectangle on face of body below touch mark (Laughlin 331).
