DescriptionBritish non-Ordnance Land Pattern carbine bayonet originally of the same dimensions as a standard musket bayonet, but with a smaller bore and a slightly shortened blade.Label TextWith the expansion of the British armed forces during the "Seven Years" or "French & Indian War" came the raising of specialized fighting units. These new Light Dragoon and Light Infantry regiments were to be armed with smaller-bored carbines. Since these firearms also required bayonets, versions of the standard "Brown Bess" musket bayonets were made for use with them.
Described in contemporary records as either "Long Socket" or Light Dragoon" bayonets, they had the same socket and blade lengths specified for the standard musket bayonet. However, the bore was greatly reduced to fit properly on the carbine, giving the socket an elongated appearance when compared to the standard Brown Bess musket bayonet.
InscribedNumber "11" engraved on the socket.
MarkingsDeely stamped "IB" on the blade.
