DescriptionA mounted photograph of a parlor interior.
Label TextClose inspection of the rear wall in this interior photo shows two paintings that were later acquired by the Folk Art Museum: a pair of double portraits by Samuel Taylor, one of them depicting Capt. Thomas Trent, Jr., and his son, William Henry, and the other, Mrs. Thomas Trent (Martha Holland) and her daughter, Joella Flood Trent. Where was the photograph taken, and whose house does it show?

A companion photo of another room in the house exists, and it is inscribed on the back "Mrs. J. W. Sours, Jr./2811 Rosalind Ave SW/Di 4-3805." The Roanoke street address corroborates the stamp on both photos ("Davis/Roanoke, Va.," used by photographer George C. Davis). Thus, it would appear that the home in the photos was Mrs. J. W. Sours's and that she once owned the two Taylor paintings. Nevertheless, genealogical research to date has not confirmed any link between Mrs. Sours and the Trent family descendants.
