DescriptionTwo-piece infant's gown of white cotton consisting of outer gown and slip or undergown. Outer gown is styled with back opening. Fastened with two pairs of drawstrings at waist and a single pair around wide low neckline. Short puffed sleeves are trimmed with narrow lace. Long full skirt with the lace-edged hem. The slip or undergown of white cotton is untrimmed and cut on the bias with V-shaped piece inset into center back. No waist.
Each piece has paper label attached reading "Slip / Dress worn by Caroline Miller in 1862"
ProvenanceAccording to paper tags, dress and "slip" were worn by Caroline Miller in 1862 for her christening.
