DescriptionThis is a small almost-square crib quilt appliqued with red printed cottons on white cotton ground. Numerous hearts are appliquéd to the surface and joined together to form four starlike medallions surrounding a smaller center eight-lobed rosette. All four sides are edged with three-inch wide bands of red-ground printed cotton. The white cotton running stitch quilting worked at an average of 7 to 8 stiches per inch follows the appliquéd shapes and also includes circles and chevrons in the ground. White cotton backing is brought to front to form very narrow edge binding. Thin batting.ca. 1850
