Label TextFlowerpots of this type were used for shipping plants from England to the colonies. On arrival the pots were often reused as garden containers for shrubs and small trees. This pot is one of 17 archaeologically recovered from the cellar of the John Page House near Williamsburg. The building was destroyed by fire between 1725 and 1730. Such pots were once common in settlements from Maine to Georgia, but few, if any, have survived intact.
