DescriptionChamber pot excavated at the Martin’s Hundred Site, James City County, Virginia, 7457-CGER 1737L.Label TextUtilitarian vessels were produced in small quantities at many 17th-century Chesapeake sites. Most were modeled on contemporary British forms. This example was found at Wolstenholme Town in James City County, Virginia, and may be the work of potter Thomas Ward, who arrived there by 1621. While the site of his kiln has not been found, physical evidence confirms that a potter worked on the property.
