DescriptionSilver cream pot: stepped twelve-lobed oval foot with slender neck supports oval boat-shaped body with convex bank below wide, high pouring lip opposite angular reeded strap handle. Lower body with twelve vertical lobes or gadroons; pouring lip and top rim with gadroon border. Marked on the exterior edge of the foot in relief with spread eagle on one side and JOHNSON & REAT in conforming rectangle on the other.
Label TextMade by the Richmond, Virginia, silversmithing partnership of Johnson & Reat, this cream pot and its companion covered sugar dish have a family history of ownership by Chief Justice John Marshall (1755-1835).
