DescriptionWesterwald blue and grey jug bearing the royal Cypher of Queen Anne, in relief, with Crown over. Cypher in the form "R.A.R." Floral ornament in relief, on incised branches. Loop handle with scroll terminal at base.
Label TextThe tankard on the left was produced in the Westerwald region of Germany early in the eighteenth century. Because German stoneware changed little over time, it continued to influence American-made wares throughout the centuries and in 1890 there were vessels similar to this one still being produced.
