DescriptionSquare tile. Bluish tin glaze decorated in blue with a scene depicting Christ carrying the cross (John 19:17): a bent figure with a halo carrying a cross, encircled by two concentric bands; barred ox-head corners.
Label TextVersions of this scene from the other two major potting areas include two additional men. The same image also is recorded in reverse. The attribution is based on the thinness of the tile, the horns on the corner decoration, and its similarity to a Liverpool example.
