DescriptionAppearance: Curved crest rail possesses vertically shaped ogee ends; crest rail centered on semicircular arm rail possessing horizontally shaped arm rests ending with volutes; three tapering columnar stiles embellished with deeply carved flutes and turned moldings; two pierced splats composed of vertically interlaced Vs and Ws surrounded by volutes, all possessing beveled sides; two coved and quarter round molded shoes; front seat rails possess quarter round molding along upper edges; cabriole legs, flanked with voluted knee blocks, rest upon ball and claw feet.

Construction: All elements, except where noted, are mahogany; arm rail butt joined together at center, secured to crest rail with glue as well as six screws along underside; stiles tenoned and pinned into arm rail; splats tenoned into arm rail and shoes; shoes glued to top of rear seat rails; seat rails tenoned and pinned into legs; rear maple seat rails possess outer surface of mahogany veneer; triangular maple glue blocks (except left of oak) nailed into place with 4 to 6 rose head nails; knee blocks glued to inner vertical extensions of seat rails.
Markings"III" chiseled and "9609/39" written in chalk on inner face of left rear rail.
