DescriptionCovered tureen of a size perhaps intended as part of a dessert service. Warm gray glaze over white body. Of swelling form with lobed upper portions and scalloped rim with two handles molded in the form of flaring scallop shells. The cover domed with an ogee movement and surmounted by an artichoke and leaf form knop. The cover with demi-lune cutout for ladle (acc. no. 1993-179,2). The contact points unglazed. The tureen and cover with borders of Gros Bleu (or dark blue) descending in cornucopia shapes associated with lobes. The blue ground with little wreathes composed of gilt dots and with a complex gilt border composed of ogee and double ogee curves, shell- and net-work and tassels. The reserves with swags of dry puce flowers, possibly painted by the James Giles workshop. The artichoke-form knop with gilt and green details; the shell handles with gilt details. The whole decoration scheme and overall form very much in the style of Sevres.
