DescriptionSalt-glazed stoneware balaster form pitcher with strap handle attached with a distinctive thumb print at the bottom terminal. The whole of the pitcher covered in deeply pronounced throwing rings intended as a distinctive aspect of the design. Marked on the neck near the top of the handle with stamped letters, "TL".
Label TextThad or Thaddeus Leopard was born in Alabama where his father was a potter. The family later relocated to Winston County, Mississippi, which is on the eastern side of the state, closer to the Alabama border. The Leopards were early Edgefield potters that migrated and worked in Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas thereby spreading traditional potting techniques across the south.
