DescriptionThis yellow pine baseboard section has a faux-marble finish. Black paint was applied over a cream paint layer to mimick the veins commonly seen in marble.Label TextDating to the third quarter of the 18th century, this base board, sometimes called a mopboard, was used to protect the base of the wall. The faux painting seen on this baseboard represents marble. The intent was not to portray stone exactly, but instead to show the wealth and status of the owner who could afford to have such decorative work done.
