Label TextThis print depicts Lord Botetourt who served as the royal governor of Virginia from 1768 until 1770 when he died. It was modeled after medallions of the governor that had circulated posthumously and was made for the Virginian General Assembly. Lord Botetourt was the first governor of Virginia to actually be present within the state, compared to the previous governor, Jeffrey Amherst, who held the title from afar.
