DescriptionSet hammer of typical form for the period with a broad, flat bottom and chamfered corners. It swells slighting in the center for the eye, and its top is slightly musroomed. A modern replcement haft is now fitted to the piece.Label TextSince it’s almost impossible to land a succession of precise hammer blows in the same place, the set hammer, struck by another smith, is used in tight spots. With a flat quadrangular face, it’s the perfect tool for creating square corners and smooth surfaces.
ProvenanceFrom the Diane and Kenneth Schwarz collection of early American blacksmithing tools.
