DescriptionA women's dress made of patch work style printed cotton. The cylinder printed fabric shows the British printing technology at its height for the mid-1820s. The bodice of the gown is lined in plain white cotton. All the seams in the bodice except for the bust darts and sleeve seams are pipped using a two-ply cotton cord. The sleeves are lined only halfway down the arm with the same plain white cotton as found in the bodice. The bodice and the skirt were made up separately and joined together with a band at the waist. The dress closes down center back with 5 buttons and buttonholes. The buttons have been replaced. The back of the gown has been slightly altered post 1846 as it was done by a sewing machine. There is also a single buttonhole on the back left, in the waistband of the gown. The bottom hem of the gown is faced in white cotton that matches the bodice and the sleeves.1796-1803
