DescriptionSilver sauceboat: Three shell feet with scrolled legs and triple-pad junctures support an almost-circular shallow body with wide pouring lip and double-scrolled, freestanding handle with acanthus leaf grip. Rim of body shaped in intricately scrolled patternLabel TextWith its ample proportions, shell and scroll feet with prominent junctures, and free-standing handle, this sauce or butter boat embodies the full-blown rococo style in Boston silver. Although a masterful craftsman, little work survives from Samuel Burt because of his early death at the age of thirty-one.
MarkingsMarked once in relief on base “SAMUEL/BURT.” in italic letters within a scrolled cartouche [Kane mark B]
