DescriptionLarge white linen damask tablecloth woven with repeated designs taken from the the Apocrypha. A naked woman seated at a fountain is being overlooked by men on either side (Susanna and the Elders). In the second vignette, two bearded men are being stoned. In the third vignette, a figure wearing seventeenth-century costume (a neck ruff and caps at the tops of the sleeves) is being crowned. Border has birds and flowers. Woven in one width, without center seam.ProvenanceVendor stated, "I acquired them (4 tablecloths #1954-251 to 1954-254) out of one of the famous English homes."
