A Phi Beta Kappa key hangs from a chain at his waist.Label TextJohn Dismukes Green was born in St. Augustine, Florida in 1900 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Virginia in 1923. He worked at The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation from 1937 to 1963, where he served as the first manager of the Williamsburg Inn, held two directorial positions, and—ultimately—became the Vice President of Williamsburg Restoration, Inc. Prior to his employment at the Foundation, he managed several hotels in New York.
